Anvil Centre

New Westminster B.C. ● Civic

The iconic design of the Anvil Centre, located in the heart of New Westminster, pays homage to the past while looking forward towards the future. The four storey, 84,000 SF civic centre podium and adjacent 9 storey, 137,000 SF office tower is comprised of a combination of glass, steel and limestone, with black brick wrapping around the exterior of the building, a nod to the turn of the century Edwardian typical red brick.

One feature is a 60’ high atrium with plentiful natural light and views to the outside; it is separated from Columbia Street by a glass screen that opens up at street level, allowing for the interior space to be combined with the street for major public events. Its flexible layout enables a variety of floor configurations from small meetings to large banquets and is designed to accommodate a wide variety of events, arts and cultural activities, and city and community led programs. Highlights of the vibrant gathering space include an 18,000 SF of dedicated event/conference space that can adapt to any function; a 364-seat, non-proscenium theatre with a 270° stage and retractable seating; multi-purpose studios, a new media gallery, the New Westminster Museum and Archives and a community space celebrating local artists.

The Anvil Centre is 40-50% more energy-efficient than other similar buildings and is LEED Gold certified.
